Over 300 people from Ethnic Communities, government, and service organisations came together at Auckland’s Aotea Centre on 28 June for Ethnic Advantage 2025. The Ministry for Ethnic Communities hosted this annual conference, focusing on the theme United Against Headwinds. The event explored challenges like global unrest and the need for inclusive leadership.

The day began with a mihi whakatau from Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei. Jehan Casinader was our Master of Ceremony (MC) for the conference. Speakers talked about the importance of empathy, inclusion, and working together to build a stronger society.

Panel sessions covered topics such as foreign interference, emergency planning, social cohesion and leadership that reflects New Zealand’s diversity. The Ministry also shared findings from the Ethnic Evidence report, showing the contributions of over 1.1 million people from Ethnic Communities and the need for better support.

Breakout sessions gave practical advice on financial sustainability and community resilience. The conference also included ten information stalls from government and community organisations. It highlighted the Ministry’s strong commitment to Ethnic Communities involvement and inclusive leadership.
