In their own words
Interpreting New Zealand was established in 1993 as the first comprehensive interpreting service in Aotearoa New Zealand. Initially providing onsite interpreters, we expanded our services in 1997 to include telephone interpreting in response to growing demand. Today, we have a permanent branch in Christchurch and coordinators and face-to-face services across Auckland, Dunedin, Nelson, and Blenheim.
We provide and train community interpreters while advocating for the rights and needs of interpreters and speakers of languages other than English. Interpreting New Zealand is proud to have achieved ISO 21998:2020 certification for healthcare interpreting services. This internationally recognised standard affirms our ability to deliver interpreting services to the highest professional and ethical standards and reflects our ongoing commitment to quality, accountability, continuous improvement, and culturally responsive practice.
Achieving this certification demonstrates that we have robust systems, clear processes, and appropriately trained interpreters in place to provide safe, consistent, and high-quality healthcare interpreting services for our clients and the diverse communities we serve.
