Pratima Namasivayam appointed Chief Executive

Pratima NamasivayamWe are pleased to share that Pratima Namasivayam has been appointed Chief Executive of the Ministry for Ethnic Communities for one year from 1 July 2026.

Pratima will lead the Ministry in its ongoing commitment to working with Ethnic Communities, government agencies, the private sector and non-government organisations (NGO) partners to deliver practical change and improve outcomes.

Many of you will remember Pratima joining the Ministry in 2022 as a Deputy Chief Executive, leading core areas such as policy, analytics and ministerial services. Under her leadership, the Ministry has strengthened how government understands the needs of Ethnic Communities and worked more closely alongside communities. This includes improving the data and evidence used in decision-making and increasing support on security and resilience issues.

Prior to the Ministry, Pratima held senior roles across several government agencies, including the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet, the Ministry of Defence and the Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Authority. She has worked across policy, law and delivery, and understands how to bring these together in complex settings to achieve results.

Her appointment reflects her extensive experience across New Zealand's public service and her commitment to serving communities across Aotearoa New Zealand.

Pratima is looking forward to connecting with organisations in person over the coming months and continuing to strengthen relationships.
