Manawatu Afghan Society Inc, formerly known as the Afghan Palmy Community, has been operating in Palmerston North for over 5 years. It was registered as a society under its new name in January 2020. The Society is a non-profit and non-political organization.
The primary purpose of this society is to provide support and assistance to the Afghan community in Manawatu, particularly Palmerston North, enabling them to integrate into New Zealand society quickly and smoothly.
The society promotes active participation of its members in a wide range of cultural, social, educational, commercial, and sports activities. It encourages members to showcase their culture and promote cultural diversity.
The society focuses on learning and preserving Afghan culture and social norms, in addition to learning new cultures and ethics, by facilitating Dari classes, cultural activities, and get-togethers.
Empowering Afghan women and the younger generation in a socio-economic environment, capacity building, job hunting, and sports activities are another major focus area for the organization.
