Vic Without Barriers is a club that promotes the objectives and general well-being of students from refugee backgrounds at Victoria University of Wellington. Additionally, We promote academic support to students with refugee backgrounds as well as social activities, projects and events. We want to establish a welcoming environment where people from all different backgrounds may communicate their perspectives and feel safe doing so. This Club is crucial for the safety of people in society at large, as well as for the wellbeing of students from refugee backgrounds, who have historically been overlooked when it comes to integration in New Zealand. While New Zealand Aotearoa is working to become a nation that values and accepts the diversity and individuality of its citizens, there is still a long way to go. They must learn to be themselves and see their individuality as a strength. Even though this club is for supporting refugee background students the club is open not just for other students from non-refugee background but also for the community as a whole. One of the future objectives for the club is to create a strong network between University and high school students both from refugee backgrounds in order to encourage our youth to continue their university studies after finishing high school and share experiences in both ways.
