The Nigerian Canterbury Association of New Zealand (NCANZ) was incorporated on 27 July 2010 under the Incorporated Societies Act 1908. NCANZ has an executive committee comprising a minimum of three members who oversee the governance and operations of the association.

The purpose of the Association is to:

1.Educate New Zealanders about Nigerian culture, values, and way of life.
2.Provide assistance and support to Nigerians and their immediate families in Canterbury (and across the South Island).
3.Assist Nigerian immigrants to adapt to and adjust to New Zealand’s way of life.
4.Promote and foster harmonious relationships among various sections of the Nigerian and wider African communities in Canterbury.
5.Act as a voice for the Nigerian community in Canterbury on matters affecting them and their relationship with the wider community.
