Help is available for eligible foreign nationals on the visitor, student or work visas who are experiencing serious financial hardship due to COVID-19. Temporary aid is available to help meet basic needs such as food and accommodation.

Department of Internal Affairs and New Zealand Red Cross are working together to help visitors to New Zealand who are in serious financial hardship due to COVID-19.

Assistance is being provided to help people meet basic needs, such as food, blankets, clothing, medication, accommodation, electricity, phone cards and/or petrol vouchers.

Those eligible for support are visitors to New Zealand who are experiencing serious financial hardship, and as a result are unable to meet their own basic, urgent and immediate needs, have exhausted other options and have no current access to a flight home.

Much of this assistance is being made directly to third-parties, such as landlords or power companies. No cash payments are being made. In some cases, vouchers will be provided. Please note that assistance will not fund flights home.

This Programme will run until the end of September.
