Level 2 means people can start doing a lot more. However Covid-19 is still out there so we must play it safe.

To keep us safe, there are limits and guidelines for gatherings. This includes all community, religious and cultural occasions (such as weddings, funerals and burials) and events at home. The latest limit can always be found at www.covid19.govt.nz(external link)

You can keep yourself safe by:

  • Washing your hands regularly with soap and then drying them. This makes a big difference.
  • Sneeze or cough into your elbow – not into the air - so you don’t spread the virus.
  • Writing down the places you go and who you spend time with – so that if anybody gets sick, other people that could also be sick can be traced.
  • Only getting close to people you know.
    • Staying 2 metres away from people you don’t know if you are in an open space like a park or beach.
    • Staying 1 metre away from people you don’t know in places like shops or bakeries.
  • On public transport, sit with someone you know or keep the seat next to you empty - don’t stand.
  • Staying home if you’re sick. Don’t go to work or school or spend time with other people.
  • Getting a Covid-19 test if you have symptoms of cold or flu like a runny nose or cough – call Healthline on 0800 611 116.
